How to shop safely online from abroad

Online shopping doesn't have to stop at national borders. It lets us discover items made by local craftspeople, independent artists and small studios from across Europe. But how can you shop internationally without unpleasant surprises?
Discover unique products, but shop thoughtfully
On large marketplaces, it's easy to get lost among thousands of similar listings. Sometimes finding a handmade item or something created by a small workshop means sifting through dozens of unrelated results.
Banubo's World of Makers was created with a different shopping experience in mind. It's a place where original products, handicrafts and specialist services can get noticed rather than disappear among mass-market listings.
Whatever platform you use, however, it's worth taking a moment to check a few important details before buying.
Check who you're buying from
Before ordering a product, pay attention to:
Information about the seller and their business.
A detailed description and genuine photos of the product.
The price, shipping costs and estimated fulfilment time.
Complaint and return policies.
Whether you can contact the seller.
Pay particular attention to made-to-order items. A unique product often takes longer to prepare than a ready-made one.
Safety starts with a transparent listing
At Banubo, buyer safety is an important part of how the platform operates. Listings are subject to moderation rules, with particular attention paid to classified ads.
Sellers with Trusted Seller status can publish listings without waiting for standard pre-publication approval. This does not mean that safety rules no longer apply — content can still be reviewed and reported.
Remember that moderation reduces the risk of inappropriate content, but it doesn't replace a buyer's own careful review of a listing.
Choose the right delivery option
Delivery is particularly important when shopping internationally. Check whether the seller ships to your country, the total shipping cost and whether tracking is available.
In Poland, InPost is a popular choice, and its services are also available in selected European markets. In Germany, DHL is one of the leading carriers, handling domestic and international shipments.
Currently, Banubo sellers arrange shipping themselves. The InPost integration has already been prepared and is undergoing final work, while DHL support is on the platform's development roadmap.
The availability of individual delivery methods will depend on the rollout stage and the terms of each listing.
Know your rights
When buying from a professional seller in the European Union, consumers generally have 14 days to withdraw from an online contract. There are exceptions, however, including certain custom-made products.
That's why it's worth checking the return terms before buying a unique, personalised item.
If there's a problem with a product, buyers may also have rights relating to complaints and remedies, independently of ordinary returns.
Discover Europe through creativity
Shopping across borders isn't just about access to more products. It's also an opportunity to discover new styles, craft traditions and people who create with passion.
At Banubo, we believe unique items deserve to be easy to find.
